Weeks 8β9: Government Responsibilities
- Laws: Official rules made by Parliament or government to guide behaviour in society.
- Regulations: Detailed rules used to implement laws (e.g. safety procedures, guidelines).
- Rules: Guidelines that help maintain order in schools, homes, or communities.
- National Government Responsibilities:
- Make and amend laws that affect the whole country
- Ensure citizens have access to services like water, sanitation, healthcare, education, and housing
- Monitor and fund infrastructure such as clinics and schools
- Key Departments:
- Water Affairs: Provide clean drinking water and sanitation systems
- Department of Labour: Protect workersβ rights and safety
- Department of Health: Ensure access to healthcare services
- Department of Women, Children & People with Disabilities: Promote equality and safety for vulnerable groups
Week 10: Educational and Intervention Programmes
- Educational Programmes: Teach people about health, safety, and the environment.
- Intervention Programmes: Take action to stop problems like crime or poor health.
- Examples:
- CHIPs: Community Health Initiatives to promote physical activity and healthy eating
- Sports intervention: Use of sports to keep youth away from drugs and crime
- NICRO Safety Ambassadors: Teach youth about gender-based violence and community involvement
- Impact studies: Check if a programme worked. For example, did youth crime go down after sports were introduced?
Week 11: Vision and Mission Statements
- Vision: Your big dream β who you want to be and what you want to achieve in life
- Mission: Your personal values, lifestyle, and goals that help you achieve your vision
- Example Vision: "To live in a world where every child has access to clean water and education."
- Example Mission: "To study environmental science and use my skills to protect communities and educate others."
- Why it matters: A mission keeps you focused and motivated to be responsible in your choices.
